Assist in hanging and taking down artwork in school hallways throughout the year as needed by art teacher; assist in collecting and organizing orders for the Art Department fundraiser.
Review PTA books and records and certify accuracy. Ensure resources/funds are being managed in a business-like manner and according to accounting procedures, that expenditures/receipts are in accordance with the budget as approved by the PTA general membership, and that all accounting is in conformity with bylaws/rules. Accounting experience is a plus.
Lead the school’s First® LEGO® League Robotics program, including recruiting coaches to lead teams and securing any necessary materials prior to meetings and competitions. Also includes working with other elementary school Robotics teams to share equipment when necessary.
Collect information on upcoming school events and important dates and compile them in a weekly e-newsletter. Maintain an email distribution list for the e-newsletter and publish weekly to families and other subscribers. Serve as the key contact to the webmaster for calendar items and event descriptions that are to be published on the website. Work with administration to post student recognition/accomplishments and general reminders on the school’s computer/TV monitors.
Accept donated books; organize book exchange day where students acquire used books in exchange for any donated books.
Responsible for sending in clipped box tops and assisting with prize drawings during morning assembly.
Develop the annual PTA budget; study previous year budget to establish how well it met needs; determine/project financial requirements for upcoming year; present budget at the last general PTA meeting of the school year for adoption by the membership.
Need many volunteers who will help students in the cafeteria during 30-minute lunch periods. Volunteers help open milk cartons and snack bags, distribute napkins and condiments, etc. Great opportunity to get to know our Bobcats during this relaxed and casual time of day.
Most of our families are blessed to have enough food and to be able to provide presents to children during the Christmas season. However, some are currently struggling to meet the basic needs for their families. Dr. Peña would like us to help these families during the holidays by collecting gift certificates, clothing and presents for the children. Our school Counselor will identify the families with needs and provide an anonymous list. Each need will be represented by a feather on the Care and Share Turkey. Each class will then pick several feathers and meet those needs as a class. Families may also take a feather(s) to participate.
Work with a committee to plan, organize and attract speakers to make presentations for students, with an emphasis on the many engineering, science and math fields.
Work with PE Teacher and a committee of 4-5 people to assist with organizing Track & Field days, Family Fitness Night and other programs (Walk to School-Bike to School).
Baldwin partners with the Coats for Kids Foundation every fall to donate new or gently used winter coats to needy families in the Austin area. The Coats for Kids Foundation is a non-profit organization that strives to provide a new winter coat to every child who needs one, www.coats-for-kids.org. The volunteer coordinator would lead the annual donation drive in October including parent communication, placing a bin in the entrance of the school and delivering all donations to the organization.
Work with School Counselor on an annual (November) drive for donations to identified (confidential) families in need. Distribute list of needs, receive and organize donations and assist in distribution.
Work with science teachers and a committee of volunteers to plan and organize morning assembly presentations, after school activities or other events/programs on Earth Day (April 22nd) that focus on the importance of conservation and the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle).
Work with PTA Programs VP to organize, plan, and implement activities/events to strengthen to school community and promote a sense of belonging for all families (movie nights, pictures with Santa, dances, etc).
Assist with planning the 5th grade graduation ceremony; coordinate with 4th grade parents for the graduation reception; and other related needs and events.
Assist the PTA and school with graphic design needs as necessary.
Recruit and coordinate parent volunteers to become trained tutors in an evidence based, fluency-building reading program targeted for 1st grade students.
Recruit students to participate in the program; send out deposit day notices; collect deposits on morning “deposit days” and deliver to Credit Union; update/maintain database of deposits.
Administer the HEB Gift Card Program fundraiser. This program funds our part time campus Technology Support position. Recruit particpants, send reminders and notifications, manage the account and mail cards to recipients.
Organize play dates throughout the summer for incoming Kindergarten students and parents which includes a “Kindergarten Kick-off” party in August.
Lead the ink cartridge program (with Office Depot) which entails placing a bin in the entrance of the school, communicating to parents to donate their recycled ink cartridges and turning them into Office Depot to earn dollars or printer credit for Baldwin.
Coordinate the Campbell’s “Labels for Education” program which includes collecting labels from parents and sending them in for credit towards free educational equipment. www.labelsforeducation.com
Work with the school librarian to plan, organize and assist the school’s library programs. Programs include: Dr. Seuss’ Birthday/Read Across America (March 2nd); Spring and Fall Book Fairs; Literacy Night; Library Birthday Book Club; and Six Flags Reading Challenge. Assist librarian in coordinating volunteers to shelve books and decorate library on an as-needed basis.
Work with the school librarian and reading specialist to organize and monitor the Literacy Library. Ensure that books are organized and being checked in/out properly throughout the year.
Maintain and periodically donate all unclaimed Lost & Found items.
Lead the Math Pentathalon Club in the fall and spring sessions including registration of students, administration of the wait list, and coordination of parent volunteers. Also includes communicating with Math Pentathalon officials to conduct parent training and lead Baldwin’s participation in competitions with other Texas schools.
Assist Music teachers in stage decorations of musical performances throughout the year.
Committee of 5, plus 1 alternate to accept nominations/submissions for PTA officers and submit slate of nominees for general membership vote between April and June each year.
Assist office staff with coordination of volunteers to “staff” the office at peak times each day. Office Volunteers answer phones, sign-in visitors, file, distribute mail and urgent messages to classrooms/teachers and various other clerical projects.
Assist photographers in organizing students for pictures in the fall and spring.
Lead the Reflections program (a national PTA-sponsored, arts-in-education recognition program which encourages children to express themselves through literature, art, music, photography, dance, and film/video); responsible for accepting entries, setting up showcase, securing judges, and conducting awards ceremony in the fall.
Coordinate, train and assist parents to serve as room parents; communicate information to room parents for distribution to their classroom parents about upcoming events/needs. Duties include recruiting volunteers to serve as room parents, conduct a yearly meeting with new room parents in the fall, and assemble various forms for volunteers and teachers at Meet the Teacher night.
Work with administration and teachers to gather lists of anticipated back-to-school supplies for the following year and process order forms and distribution of pre-ordered supplies to the teachers at Meet the Teacher night. Also includes tracking and fulfilling online orders.
Work with science teachers to organize annual Science Fair held in the early spring; responsible for accepting entries, setting up showcase, and securing judges for event.
Lead the Spirit Nights fundraiser. Responsible for finding restaurants that would like to provide a portion of their sales on specific nights to Baldwin.
Coordinate the sale of spirit sticks throughout the school year. This program raises money for our school.
Organize efforts to honor the teachers and staff; provide meals/snacks for faculty at meetings, luncheons, and other special events as needed.
Work with the science teachers to create and maintain the teaching gardens and shed storage facility.
Periodically translate communications from administration or PTA to parents.
Run the annual design contest including soliciting designs from current Baldwin students, coordinating with Spirit Store coordinator to develop next year’s t-shirts incorporating the design and recognizing winners of the contest.
Monitor and organize students for vision and hearing screening in the fall and spring.
Volunteer individually or with a partner (2-3 hours/week) to assist teachers with copying, cutting, die-cuts, and laminating needs. VWR Coordinator ensures volunteers have the supplies needed, and trains volunteers on the various tools.
Develop and maintain the PTA website www.baldwinpta.org, including weekly posting of information to the home page and calendar and monthly updates of other relevant content. Administer and maintain social media accounts, domain email accounts, domain hosting, create and administer Pay Pal buttons and reporting for the treasurer of all online shopping activity.
Coordinate efforts to welcome new students/families to the school; responsible for communicating basic information about the school, answering questions, ensuring they receive the Baldwin Weekly Roar and providing school tours throughout the school year.
Work on a team to ensure general and individual class pages are complete and submitted to the yearbook publisher by certain deadlines in January and February; includes finding volunteers to take photos and perform page layouts, organizing yearbook sales, and distributing yearbooks; must coordinate with the school principal.
